The ABCs of DISC
After taking the Personal Profile System Graph test, my results for Main high D and secondary high C. Although my C result was barely a little bit higher then my I and S type which were about the same level, I think high D and C is usually the type of management style I would take. I believe if the situation called for me to be another type whether it be I or S, I believe it's possible for a person to switch from their more dominant nature to a more seculded nature to get the job done. I think test like these do help people get a better insight on the type of people other maybe but as long as they don't soley base their decision and come up with a sterotyped bias on them. A person with high S type doesn't have to be stuck with always being the quiet shy type in management situation. If I was to be placed in the Stranded situation, I believe having a high D and I personality would work best, as long as I can shape the environmental siutation and have a greater influence on my peers then there will definitely be a higher chance of survival.

I think yours was the only blog where I read that the person had been high dominance, and secondary conscientious. That is a very interesting mix when you consider how opposite those two personalities seem to be. I bet you that a lot of actors have the personality type of dominance and conscientious because it would allow them to move back and forth between the personalities of the different roles they are playing. I suppose that makes sense for someone with a conscientious and dominance personality to have their secondary personality be very close to being influential and steady. As you said this allows the individual to switch secondary roles to the personality type that is best for the situation. I agree with you that these tests can be used as a tool to help develop a picture, but are not concrete enough to base a decision solely upon. People change; Situations change; Management changes; Your mix of employees changes; Everything under question is a variable, rather than a discrete value that only needs to be determined once. In reference to the stranded situation, I partially agree with you. If the leader is able to shape the situation of the environment, then the personality type to have would be high d, secondary i, because there really would be no reason to study the environment. However, since the environment can not be shaped except by mother nature, I believe it would be best to have someone analyze the situation and come up with a best course of action. In my mind, the leader most capable of doing this would be someone who is high C, and secondary S, or High S, and secondary C.
ReplyDeleteLike the in class exercise, I believe that dominant type leadership style is the best fit. We need someone to make a correct decision in a short time. Time is everything, especially for our survival. If our group have a leader likes you, I am sure that we can get out of the harsh situation. High D and High C is really special. Wish you will be a powerful leader in the near future.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your test result 100%. It seems to describe you pretty accuractely,you answered all of the questions in the manner that I would have to if I was you. The test shows that you are the types to try and become dominant during a crisis situation to lead our groups but also stay concious towards everything else to make sure things don't exceed our limits. I do agree with you about having a D high I leader. At times of panick you need a leader to be able to get everything under control.
ReplyDeleteI actually agree with the first blog, yours being the first I'm reading with a high D secondary C. I'm not sure I completely agree that one could make an easy transition from one style of management- or being managed- to the other. Being someone with a diverse management personality is definitely an advantage. Corporations are now looking for people who can adjust and fit in with a changing environment and groups of professionals.
