As soon as we were given the egg planning activity my group started coming up with ideas even before the 20 minute planning was given. Overall I believed my group followed the planning steps to at least some extent. We had came up with multiple ideas each and then we tried to play off each others ideas to come up with a solid consensus, at first I was the one who was volunteered to be the one to get in front to drop the egg, but as soon as we found out the extra stipulations of having to have our arm straight we quickly changed to find a different group member since I was the tallest one and it would put us at a disadvantage. We soon came up with the idea which seemed most plausible while staying in accordance with all the rules especially the 50% visible one. We all had our assigned jobs of cutting the straws, holding the egg, or dealing with the tape. Our overall plan was to reinforce the bottom of the egg with a layer of tape, followed but cut pieces of straws with the air still inside, followed by a tee-pee style base to put it in, overall I would say our idea seemed valid in theory but when applied it proved otherwise.
For those of you who may reply my group was the first one to go with “Chicken Little”.

I must give you credit for going on first. But I suppose that you didn't feel so bad when you realized that most of us joined you guys. Me group did not win either, but I must admit that it was a good experience, and I certainly learned a lot. At least the next time we will have to do something, cause I am sure professor is saving something else for us, we will preform better.
ReplyDeleteAhh, I remember Chicken Little. I was 3rd in line to drop the egg, and I was actually hoping the best for Chicken Little because if he made it, it would show that my group's egg had some chance to survive the fall too. Sadly, things didn't work out as hoped for.
ReplyDeleteYour strategy of not sending the tallest person up to the front to perform the egg drop was clever, and it certainly takes a few inches off the steep drop. The fact that your group assigned tasks and followed through with the assignments displayed great teamwork. Your group may have not succeeded in accomplishing the goal of this task, but you certainly had specific areas where you all shined at during the planning process and execution of the plan.
I must give you credit for going first too. I think it was so good the contribution from everybody in your team. I do believe that it was a solid group project. Probably you guys thought about it too much, or because of having too many choices you didn't select the most practical one. My team didn't have that many ideas, we got stuck with one. Maybe a few modifications to it but basically the same initial one.
ReplyDeleteProf Ks' idea of showing us the importance of planning using some fun was definetely a positive one. It showed us the basis of planning, even the most silly idea can and must be turned into a plan for it to be accomplished.
My team didn't get those points either...
Haha I always loved that name. Sounds like your group was a lot more organized and ready to go then mine. My team also used the shortest team member strategy in dropping the egg. I can't imagine why one would not use this strategy in dropping their egg. Overall your plannings sounds like it was organized and clear from the get go. Great Job!
