Decision Making
When I had found out that we were able to change the format of the next test, the first thing that jumped into my mind was being able to get a higher grade on the next exam, although as soon as I found out that we had to come to a 100% class consenses on things I became a little more unsure. I believe at first I stuck more with the "Avoidance" personality since there was so many people trying to talk over each other I didn't feel like bothering to waste my breath. It became sort of chaotic and idoitic that a lot of people were saying the same thing over and over like no more multiple multiple choice when we aready got that out of the way, and the fact that we were on a strict time limit didn't help much either. Towards the end I became more of the "Compromise" type when I learn that obviously we weren't going to be able to ask for the impossible, although most people were just trying to get free points out without offering a fair trade off, but the situation like 5 True and False in the end worked out pretty fine. I actually didn't see any problem with the True and False, I don't know if it's just me but it seem like most people forgot the with True and False you have a 50% shot versus a straight up multiple choice test that only gives you a 25% shot. In the end I believe our class consenses on the test came out pretty well, could it have been better? Yes, but I'm still satisfied with the results since it seemed like we got more then other classes would normally get.

I spoke to a person who had this class last semester. They eliminated the middle test, so it was just one midterm and the final. If that wasnt enough, they also agreed on dropping the lowest grade, so those the did well on the midterm had nothing left to worry about. They simply didnt take the final, and got an A all based on the first test and the blog assignment. Pretty good deal, but i think thats why the Prof said we are not to touch the final...
ReplyDeleteWow, they got better deal than us. Anyways, I think 5 true or false works well with me and the fact that we actually got 100% approval from everyone in the class was awesome. Like you, I was very quiet in the beginning listening to others because I didn’t know exactly what I want. Later I was involved trying to get what I don’t’ like out of the way. As you mentioned, many people were not listening and repeat the same idea over and over again.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you about the way the class was going with a repetitive statements of more multiply choices, they were just not listing or looking up at the broad. I also chose the same positions as you did throughout this whole decision making thing. And Compromising is the best possible way to end this chaos with such time restriction and we were nowhere near a solution to the problem. Thank god everyone came to their sense and decided to agree with everyone else. The result was satisfying, it was what I expected to have with dropping the lowest grade and more multiple choice questions. The Soulution that Lev talked about from the last semester class was a super good idea. How come we didn't come up with that too, we could all get an A in the class. LOL
ReplyDeleteI also thought they were too many people talking and repeating the same thing. Eventhough true and false have 50% shot of getting right, for some reason I always get those wrong. I rather have multiple choice and have more options. Overall, I thought we had a good deal. I hope everyone will do well and get As.
ReplyDeleteI actually forgot about how chaotic that class really was. I remember now going over the same topics over and over again and thinking how stupid the class was being. I also do not agree with all the finite details of the revision but overall I think we did get a good deal and am glad we were all able to compromise.
