Nurturing Creativity in Business

So for our last assignment we have been told to make a poem about Management, although I'm not too sure which category this would fall under, this is what I came up with.

Management in this class is quite unique,
No one is quiet when given a chance to speak,
Always there cause he wants his pay
Professor K's class makes my day
Never an activity thats a bore
Cuz everyone wants a higher score
Now all that's left is for Wednesday to arrive
and I'll reread this poem for my extra five.

Communicating via Blog

To start things off I actually somehow never saw this assignment was up on blackboard and was more then surprised to see that the due date was May 6. Well this could of been a lack of communication on my part but so be it.

Anyways, I find that effective communication is a strong role in helping promote better relationships regardless if it's in the business field or wherever. As the experiment in class showed without a good communication between the class we werent really able to get the task done, and we also have to keep in mind there will always be certain complication with the message between the Source and the Receivers.

I found that the blogging assignment was something new that I have never done in any other class and actually only realized the effectiveness of it mid-way into the class. It really does help by giving us a way to see how our peers have responded to certain experiments or certain topics, then as the original posters we get feedback from our classmates which in turn also helps us by giving us a deeper insight on how others think and how we might take their ideas into considerations. It also doesn't hurt that a task like this gives the students a self manageable task that makes up 20% of our grade. My final thoughts is this type of compenent in this course is very effective, as for continuing posting in the future I probably would if I have time but most likely it will start to get derailed and become unrelated to management.

The ABCs of DISC

After taking the Personal Profile System Graph test, my results for Main high D and secondary high C. Although my C result was barely a little bit higher then my I and S type which were about the same level, I think high D and C is usually the type of management style I would take. I believe if the situation called for me to be another type whether it be I or S, I believe it's possible for a person to switch from their more dominant nature to a more seculded nature to get the job done. I think test like these do help people get a better insight on the type of people other maybe but as long as they don't soley base their decision and come up with a sterotyped bias on them. A person with high S type doesn't have to be stuck with always being the quiet shy type in management situation. If I was to be placed in the Stranded situation, I believe having a high D and I personality would work best, as long as I can shape the environmental siutation and have a greater influence on my peers then there will definitely be a higher chance of survival.

The Power of Vision

After seeing the video on vision, it became clear to see that having a vision will be the starting point of achieving the goals you want. For me personally some goals that I would like to accomplish would be getting a job in the near future, I would prefer to get a job as a bartender until I can get a better job in a Accounting firm. Another goal I would like to accomplish would be to complete the 5 year program and get my Master's in Accounting. My final personal goal would be coming back to school to get my Masters in Finance, although these goals are difficult to accomplish these are the plans in my vision for the future. I believe the first goal I would be able to put into effect would be getting a job as a bartender, although the its a very competitive field and easier for females to get the position, as long as I put action to this vision the possibilities will open up.

Decision Making

When I had found out that we were able to change the format of the next test, the first thing that jumped into my mind was being able to get a higher grade on the next exam, although as soon as I found out that we had to come to a 100% class consenses on things I became a little more unsure. I believe at first I stuck more with the "Avoidance" personality since there was so many people trying to talk over each other I didn't feel like bothering to waste my breath. It became sort of chaotic and idoitic that a lot of people were saying the same thing over and over like no more multiple multiple choice when we aready got that out of the way, and the fact that we were on a strict time limit didn't help much either. Towards the end I became more of the "Compromise" type when I learn that obviously we weren't going to be able to ask for the impossible, although most people were just trying to get free points out without offering a fair trade off, but the situation like 5 True and False in the end worked out pretty fine. I actually didn't see any problem with the True and False, I don't know if it's just me but it seem like most people forgot the with True and False you have a 50% shot versus a straight up multiple choice test that only gives you a 25% shot. In the end I believe our class consenses on the test came out pretty well, could it have been better? Yes, but I'm still satisfied with the results since it seemed like we got more then other classes would normally get.

An Eggs-cellent Way to Plan

As soon as we were given the egg planning activity my group started coming up with ideas even before the 20 minute planning was given. Overall I believed my group followed the planning steps to at least some extent. We had came up with multiple ideas each and then we tried to play off each others ideas to come up with a solid consensus, at first I was the one who was volunteered to be the one to get in front to drop the egg, but as soon as we found out the extra stipulations of having to have our arm straight we quickly changed to find a different group member since I was the tallest one and it would put us at a disadvantage. We soon came up with the idea which seemed most plausible while staying in accordance with all the rules especially the 50% visible one. We all had our assigned jobs of cutting the straws, holding the egg, or dealing with the tape. Our overall plan was to reinforce the bottom of the egg with a layer of tape, followed but cut pieces of straws with the air still inside, followed by a tee-pee style base to put it in, overall I would say our idea seemed valid in theory but when applied it proved otherwise.

For those of you who may reply my group was the first one to go with “Chicken Little”.

A Current Management Problem

I have recently just joined Nu Alpha Phi and as a new member I have a lot of work thrown on my plate. I currently hold 3 positions within the fraternity and the workload actually adds up to more then most other people would normally have to deal with. At the same time I usually have to pick up the slacks for my other brothers who get lazy or just aren't as focused. During the first two weeks of school I had to get new members interested in joining our fraternity so there was a lot of contacting people and trying to organize events, and to make sure everyone gets to the right place. Internally I hold a position that is responsible for contacting all the other members and keeping them up to date with whats going on, so even events that I don't plan or know much about I have to find out in order to relay the information. This is becoming difficult for me to manage with school work and fraternity work while also looking for a job but I can't afford to slack off on any of the three.
